Maggie Mertens has been writing about women in sport for a while. With her new book, Better Faster Further, she contextualizes a consistently unfair history via the medium of running.
Hey Raz, thanks for another insightful article (and another book I'm going to have to read!).
Thought it worth sharing this piece from Len Ferman, where he looks at the story of Diane Leather - another incredible woman runner who achieved brilliant things despite being effectively banned from doing so (her records weren't even recognised!):
It's a great story but on its own, it feels more like an anecdote. It's more jarring (debate as to how effective that is) when you realize you're holding dozens of similar stories in your hand.
Oh definitely, just thought it was another interesting story. Someone puts them all together - as it sounds as if Maggie has done - and you have a narrative.

Thanks for reading her book & sharing the takeaways with your audience. I don’t think many men will read this book.
I agree. It's difficult to get men to use soap.
haha!
Great. Another book to add to the queue. Luckily, life is long.
Sorryyy 🫡
