I think you've pin pointed what it is in running that connects every runner interacting in a space or event- intimacy.

I thought perhaps it was a shared hardship, 'the run', but what is that but intimacy.

For me, it is the intimacy and connection that means everything.

The vanity metrics are just that.....vanity metrics. 1,000 miles versus 5,000 miles.....what's the difference?

Mathematically it is 4,000 miles but if they are hollow then give me the 1,000 full meaning miles over the additional 4,000 that don't allow me to connect with others and others to connect with me.

You can learn a lot about yourself in those 4000 miles, though, and everyone has different levels of how much they already know about themselves. It's all valuable.

I think that learning about yourself is the key. We are all on separate journeys and no one way is more right than another.

What questions you ask yourself while you are out there and what actions do you take from those questions?

The why becomes very valuable when it's strong. Running, and anything else, becomes very difficult if the why doesn't add value to your life.

I just ran for the first time since June of 2024. Starting over. But starting nonetheless. ⚡️

This. It’s exactly what I feel in the running clubs and communities I’ve cultivated around myself. It’s something that can’t be described easily but it seems that this is the closest I’ll get to that. Great write up Raz
