Wow! Just want to note that Rob can walk the walk. He put me in the pain cave a few times when I was training with Highgate during a grad-school stint in London. Rob's a guy you want in your interval workout—an absolute grinder.
Also want to shout Soar's race shorts in which I notched 2 marathon PBs. Solid solid kit.
Run clubs are definitely having a moment, and I’m here for it. I live in a small town where I’m known as “the runner in town” (which is still kind of funny to me), and just recently, a local brewery asked if I’d start a run club for them. Running and beer? Seems like a solid combo. It’s cool to see how much running is bringing people together lately.
I have found that in the weight room at the gym - a place where Runners are generally given a significant side-eye unless accompanied by a 'sponsor' of some sort - a tech race shirt (with a nice graphic on it, a date, and a reference to distances of some sort) is a fairly effective Invisibility Cloak, and people pretty much leave me alone
My fear, as an insecure person, is that since I dont particularly care for brands, there would be a judgement passed on me for wearing a race shirt from past marathon, or a generic brand shirt over an expensive boutique singlet. To that I'd say running > style of singlet, no?
That is the exclusive element of all of this. (Had a great conversation about that today - coming soon.) You can, of course, let your running do the talking, but there's definitely also a punk rock way to reach the same goal. Got any band tshirts?
I had to look up the word dodderiness and I have now fulfilled my: learn something new everyday criteria.
Side note, I appreciate the English to American translation. I'm working my way through Duolingo for Spanish and can turn to your newsletter to help me in that area. 🤣

100%. You do not get to be a Highgate Harrier by accident.
And yes, the shorts are quite lauded, but I've never had the pleasure.

It's a great combo. I used to run with a group in LA that met at a different brewery every week. A great way of sampling new beer and meeting other people who like to do the same. I made some really good friends there. https://www.runningsucks101.com/p/make-friends-with-los-angeles-craft-runners
Appreciate the info, homie! I’ll check out this read today.

I'll slap one of those 26.2 bumper stickers on my chest next time
